Macks Pie Contest entries

Last Week To Sign Up: Mack’s Apples Pie Contest Arrives Saturday February 6th

Macks Pie Contest entries1/30/16 Londonderry – Do you bake a mean apple pie? Mack’s Apples, New Hampshire’s oldest family-run farm, invites you to compete with pie bakers from around the region for Best Apple Pie. There are two pie categories that you can compete in – Traditional two-crust apple pie, and Non-Traditional (a “creative” category – pie must contain mostly apples, but can contain other ingredients such as nuts, other fruits, cream, etc and does not have to be a two-crust pie). Contestants can compete in either category or bake two different pies to compete in both.

At stake… bragging rights, cool prizes and the coveted Mack’s Apples Pie Contest pie plate, designed by Salmon Falls Stoneware of Dover NH. Prizes and ribbons also awarded for Second and Third Place in each category.

Winning recipes will be published and made available in Mack’s Apples Farm Market. Winners names will adorn a plaque at Mack’s Apples for all to see. The concept of sharing recipes gives everyone an opportunity to become a better pie baker… and it makes the following year’s competition even more interesting!

There is no cost to enter. Sign up in person at Mack’s Apples Farm Market. Contestants must be 16 years of age or older. No commercial bakeries, restaurants or employees of Mack’s Apples may enter.

Pies must arrive at the contest in ready-to-eat condition. Contestants must arrive no later than 1:30pm February 6, 2016. Contest and judging begins promptly at 2pm.

The Apple Pie Contest is a tradition at Mack’s Apples and has been held nearly every year for over 25 years.

Whether you compete, come to cheer on your favorite, or are just coming to see this “slice” of Americana, you’ll enjoy the sights, smells and fun of this nearly 25 year old tradition. May the judges’ fork be with you!

Mack’s Apples TMI Update Monday 10/12

Here’s what’s happening Monday 10/12:

National Weather Service forecast: Beach day! Sunny, high 77! (bring sunblock)

At U-Pick we are offering: Cortland, Empire and Macoun, plus we still have a few Macs (prediction: they won’t last the day). The Macouns are really, really nice right now and are currently the best eating apple at U-Pick.

Later varieties are not ready yet because of slow ripening conditions (that lllllong summer!). We’ll post on Facebook and on our recorded Hotline as soon as these varieties become available.

How to pick your own apples at Mack’s Apples? Drive to one of our many orchards (they are a distance from our Farm Market). Each is self-contained: buy your bag at the orchard and pick! Many types of credit cards accepted. There are pumpkin field(s) at each orchard. Visit our U-Pick page for more info before visiting.

This is the best time of year to visit the Farm Market (hours to right). Fall colors are nearing peak and we have about 200 tons of pumpkins on display. Makes for terrific pictures! We have cornstalks, hardy mums and hay bales for your fall decorating.

Inside the Farm Market, there are many kinds of apples to choose from – and yes we have Honeycrisp in the ‘Market! See “In Season” to the right for the latest fruit and veggie list.

About Google: many customers have told us that our hours are listed on Google as 9-6 daily. This is half true. Those are the hours for our Farm Market. U-Pick hours are 10-5 daily. We do not control our Google profile, but we’re trying to fix that.

Be sure to share and post on FB and Twitter @macksapples, and on our new profile on Snapchat @macksapples and Instagram @macksapplesnh

We look forward to meeting you, and if you’re visiting us again as your annual tradition, thank you for your enthusiastic support!

See you soon!
